Thanks for visiting!
The presentation of my work on this website is a reflection of my studio practice.  I have chosen three poles from which to represent my interrest;  observation, hybrid, and memory.  They represent a spectrum of interrest, not categories, with direct sensual presence on one end and internalized memory on the other.  Matisse captures the spirit of this endeavor with the following remark:

"A distiction is made between painters who work directly from nature and those who work purely from imagination.  Personally, I think neither of these methods must be preferred to the exclusion of the other.  Both may be used by the same individual, either because he needs contact with objects in order to receive sensations that will excite his creative faculty, or his sensations are already organized.  In either case he will be able to arrive at that totality which constitutes a picture."

This website will not be a display of current work fresh from the studio (for that I would suggest a personal visit to my studio, which I would be happy to oblige).  The images chosen are a mix of older and newer work which I feel more accurately reflects a long view of my studio practice.  That said, from time to time I do plan to display a selection of work, from current gallery shows or exhibitions, under a separate navigation link.

Enjoy the website and visit again as I keep working on it!
