The relationships between imagery and points in space is as old as astrology, and seems natural to the human imagination. The use of landmarks as a way of mapping out a visual space is one of the most helpful thought processes that I teach my students... it can help with proportion, perspective, foreshortening, and a host of other drawing issues.
